T

ravel and tourism make Colonial Beach, Virginia a great place to live, work, play, and visit. CB, as it’s known to locals, was once a secret known only to a lucky few. Today in this charming community on the Potomac River, the seasons are not only Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall but Peak Season, Shoulder Season, and the quiet Low Season.

The town’s recent economic growth includes new restaurants, retail, and a boom in rentable townhomes, manors, and cottages. A new coworking space, pet gift store, arcade, seafood bar and an outdoor outfitter are just a handful of new businesses creating jobs and serving travel and tourism needs. CB’s popularity among travelers has recently stimulated growth in the hospitality field. Tourists arrive by car, motorcycle and even the occasional seaplane. With 11 marinas, many visitors arrive by boat. Anyone can rent an entire house or a tiny houseboat for one night or a whole summer.

During peak season there are two to three festivals, concerts and large events every month including a renowned osprey festival, the 70-year-strong Potomac River Fest and parade, and the Northern Neck Beach Music Festival with live Shag bands and dancing on the sand. This golf-cart town boasts three golf cart rental locations, charming inns and hotels, and nationally important historic sites within a short drive of the center of town. There are two local breweries and live music in many locations every weekend. The downtown social district features several Sip N’ Stroll events. Each Sip N’ Stroll allows people to carry their beer, wine or cocktail as they window shop in the downtown area or watch boats and ospreys from the beach. If not for the tourism industry, Colonial Beach would experience economic decline. But with such glorious sunrises and sunsets, historic attractions, lovely locals, and so many other benefits, the secret is out making Colonial Beach one of the most enticing places to travel in the Commonwealth.
