Willem Dicke is a Washington, DC-based singer/songwriter/guitarist whose original songs have won awards from organizations such as Billboard Magazine, the Songwriters Association of Washington and UNISONG. His live performances and songwriting success have earned him feature stories in local publications and on Fox Morning television news program, and earned him a showcase performance at the prestigious Philadelphia Music Conference. Willem has played extensively in the Washington area music scene as a solo acoustic act, with an acoustic duo and as the lead singer/guitarist of several bands. He has performed at numerous bars and small concert venues in the DC area, including the State Theater and Nissan Pavilion, and has opened for acts such as Vertical Horizon, Yes and Fighting Gravity. His cover material includes over 400 songs and a wide variety of both classic pop/rock/folk/ material and the latest radio hits . Willem’s trademark at his live shows is extended and eclectic medleys of songs, in which he weaves material from the Beatles to Usher.
Willem’s most recent CD “Familiar Ground” won a number of awards; Billboard Magazine awarded Willem second place for songwriting in the rock category for “Candlelight Turned Fire”. Four other songs from the CD also won awards in the Billboard contest. Other songwriting awards include second place in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for St. Patricks Day, fourth place in the rock category for both the UNISONG Song Contest and the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for “Someone Somewhere.” Most recently, Willem’s music was used in acclaimed independent films such as “Always Will” and Jeffrey Archer’s “Hand to Hand” in 2006. Willem was the featured artist in February 2008 on Rec Radio (www.recradio.com) and his music has been featured on Washington radio station DC 101.
