Avoid the family drama this Thanksgiving! Celebrate the holiday weekend peacefully in the river town of Colonial Beach, Virginia (CBVA) in Westmoreland County, home to George Washington Birthplace National Monument. It was, after all, this founding father who issued the first proclamation declaring Thanksgiving a national holiday.
Arrive in CBVA Wednesday, the night before Thanksgiving (one of the biggest party nights of the year) and kick off the holiday at Hunan Diner, hosting a special Thanksgiving Eve Buffet (804) 224-8754. The Lighthouse Restaurant will host its regular Wednesday Karaoke.
Thanksgiving morning, join Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department for its annual Turkey Day 10k Fun Run and Food Drive. Run/walk Thanksgiving morning 8-10 am with the Firefighters of the Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department and help make a holiday meal special for a family in need. NO RACE FEE! Just bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to a local food bank. The 10k race will be timed, there is also a 5k that isn’t timed.
Spend the night at a local motel, such as River Edge Inn, which is offering a Winter Special from November 11-December 31, 2019. Stay 3 nights and get the 4th night free OR take 15% off the nightly rate. Call to reserve.
Feast on a full Thanksgiving Day Buffet, complete with salads, turkey, ham, beef and fish, assorted sides, breads/rolls and desserts at: High Tides on the Potomac, 12-6 pm (804-224-8433), Riverboat on the Potomac, 12-5 pm (804-224-7055) and Wilkerson’s Seafood Restaurant, 12-4 pm (804) 224-7117. Book a vacation cottage and you can prepare your own Thanksgiving Day feast! Westmoreland Berry Farm is offering whole, fresh baked pies straight from the Farm. Choose from Sweet Potato, Pumpkin, Apple, Pecan, or Very Berry. Only $15 each. Call by Nov. 12, 4 pm to order. Pickup Tuesday, Nov. 26, 10 am to 4 pm.
The Tides Inn Market is offering a dinner menu that people can order then pick up the day before Thanksgiving.
Willey’s Road Stove will have Peach, Cherry, Caramel Apple Cobbler or Double Layer Pumpkin Pie from Renee’s Sweet Treats available for $15 each.
