Colonial Beach, Virginia (CBVA), is a natural venue for Beach Music! Beach Music is a style of music that incorporates rhythm and blues (R&B), pop, soul, and maybe even a little bit of rock and disco. Originating in the Carolinas, it is also known as Carolina Beach Music, Shag Music, or Beach & Shag. It is mostly associated with the official dance of North Carolina and South Carolina, the Carolina Shag, a style of swing dance. This genre of music and dance originated around 1946, experienced a transition in the 60s and 70s, and experienced a resurgence in the 1980s. Today, new, original beach music is still produced and enjoyed, particularly in the coastal regions of Southeastern U.S.
The 2nd Annual Northern Neck Beach Music Festival will be held Saturday, September 14, from 11 am to 8 pm (Gates open at 10:30 am.) on Town Hill. The event features three musical acts, shag dance lessons, shag dance contest and silent auction to benefit Colonial Beach Community Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) dedicated to economic, educational, and environmental improvements in and around CBVA, with a focus on quality of life for residents, weekenders, and visitors.
Headlining the event are legendary beach music artists, The Embers and The Rhondels. Opening act is Feature Attraction.

The Embers recorded “I Love Beach Music”, which consistently ranks at the top of Greatest Beach Music Songs of all time.
The Rhondels were one of the first big-band rock bands to emerge in the mid-late 1960s. Their most popular song was the catchy 1969 hit “What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am?”
We have a room already at the hotel next to the event If we don’t get a party tent can we still see the stage we know the Embers very well and and it was so much fun last year the way you had it set up.
Thank you, Renee and Bruce Bennett
That’s great! Look forward to seeing you!
If we get the party tent, does each person still need a general admission ticket?
How are the party tents reserved? Is it first come, first serve?
Is there a limit to how many people I can cram into my tent?
Will there be room for overflow to sit in front of our tent?
Hi Fanya! For more information about the party tent option, please email beachmusiccbva@gmail.com. Look forward to seeing you!
