For the 67th year, the river town of Colonial Beach, Virginia, is honoring and celebrating the history and bounty of the Potomac River. The entire Town of Colonial Beach joins in the fun, hosting a full line-up of weekend activities. Here are some highlights.
The traditional, 3-day Annual Potomac River Festival begins Friday, June 8, with a Fire/Rescue Parade (one of the few left in the state), brought to you by Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Fire and rescue departments from all over join the parade to show department pride in the ‘Nation’s Loudest Parade’! Parade start time is 7:30 pm, held rain or shine.
Following the parade is the Miss Colonial Beach beauty pageant on Town Stage.
The Potomac River Festival, hosted by Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce, continues on Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, with a Town Carnival including activities, rides, food and craft vendors, live music, crab races, Boat Parade, and a Grand Feature Parade that starts at noon.
Sunday, the last day of the celebration, features a Pet Parade at noon, Boat Parade at 1 pm, activities and the Town Carnival from 10 am to 3 pm.
Other weekend events include:
Wine & Design Sunflower Bouquet Painting class at Westmoreland Berry Farm, 5:30-7:30 pm.
Karaoke & Open Mic night at Colonial Beach Brewing, 7-9 pm.
Dockside Restaurant & Tiki Bar has Happy Hour 5-7 pm, Tiki Taco specials starting at 6 pm, and Blind Corn Hole at 7 pm.
Colonial Beach Farmers Market, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 4-7 pm.
Loyal Order of Moose Steak Dinner 5-8 pm. Public welcome.
Dockside Restaurant & Tiki Bar has food specials and Happy Hour from 5-7 pm, DJ Hatch from 6-10 pm, and Team Trivia at 7:30 pm.
(JUST ADDED) Colonial Beach Artists Guild 2nd Friday Art Walk–art, live music, refreshments. Participating venues: The Museum at Colonial Beach, Visions by Shirl, Dockside Realty (A portion of sales of Kathy Waltermire’s portraits of local cats, some homeless, will go to Colonial Beach Trap, Neuter and Release program.), Potomac River Fisheries, Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce, Coldwell Banker Elite (host) and Jarrett Thor Fine Arts. All galleries/studios will be open from 6 pm to 9 pm. Other venues may close at 8 pm.
JP Soars and the Red Hots at High Tides on the Potomac and The Black Pearl Tiki Bar
5K run/walk around the Point, organized by Colonial Beach Brewing, 9 am. Martina’s Cantina Latin food truck will be at the brewery for the special release of Colonial Beach Brewing’s smoked chili beach blonde ale, Smoking Hot Blonde. Live music and perhaps an additional beer release, as well.
Brunch drink specials at Dockside Restuarant & Tiki Bar from 10 am to noon, Pete Baker performs 4-8 pm and Kristen & The Noise after the fireworks.
American Legion Colonial Beach Post 148 opens invites the public to a hamburger or hot dog lunch or dinner, music, dancing and fireworks view from 3-9 pm.
Cedar Creek at High Tides on the Potomac and The Black Pearl Tiki Bar.
Brunch drink specials at Dockside Restuarant & Tiki Bar from 10 am to noon and Jerry Wimmer Trio at 3 pm.
A Fundraiser for the Victims of the Volcano Eruption in Guatemala, including a raffle, Colonial Beach Brewing, noon to 9 pm.
Blues Flash performs at High Tides on the Potomac and The Black Pearl Tiki Bar, 3-7 pm.
